Product Description
Overview of GX21M15 ChipGX21M15 is a temperature-to-digital converter that utilizes an on-chip bandgap temperature sensor and Σ-Δ A/D conversion technology, along with an over-temperature detection output. It includes a series of data registers: a configuration register (Conf) that stores device settings such as device operation mode, OS operation mode, OS polarity, and OS fault queue (for detailed description, see Section 7 “Functional Description”); a temperature register (Temp) that stores digital temperature data; and set-point registers (Tos and Thyst) that store programmable over-temperature shutdown thresholds and hysteresis limits. Communication with the controller is enabled via a 2-wire serial I²C bus interface. The device also provides an open-drain output (OS), which is activated when the temperature exceeds the programmed threshold limit. This temperature sensor has 3 logic address pins, allowing up to 8 devices to be connected on the same bus without address conflicts. GX21M15 can be configured into different operation modes. It can be set to normal mode for periodic monitoring of ambient temperature, or to shutdown mode to minimize power consumption. The OS output can operate in either of two optional modes: OS comparator mode or OS interrupt mode. Its output active state can be configured as high level or low level. Both the fault queue for the number of consecutive faults to activate the OS output and the set-point limit threshold are programmable. The temperature register always stores 11-bit two’s complement data, with a temperature resolution of 0.125℃. This high temperature resolution is particularly useful for applications requiring precise measurement of thermal drift or thermal runaway. When accessing GX21M15, the currently ongoing temperature conversion is not interrupted (i.e., the I2C bus section is completely independent of the Σ-Δ converter section), and continuous access to GX21M15 is possible without waiting for communication time, even during a temperature conversion time. This does not prevent the device from using new temperature conversion results to update the temperature register. Once the temperature register is updated, the new conversion result can be used immediately. When GX21M15 is powered on, it operates in the normal mode, where OS is in comparator mode, the temperature threshold is 80℃, and the hysteresis value is 75℃. Thus, it can function as a standalone thermostat with those predefined temperature set points.
