Product Description

Product Brief

The KTH7112 is a high-speed, high-precision magnetic encoder integrated with advanced Automatic Non-Linear Calibration (ANLC). Users may trigger the calibration procedure via register writes or hardware pins. The IC automatically measures the sensor’s non-linear errors and calculates compensation coefficients, then stores calibration results into the internal MTP (Multiple-Time Programmable) memory. This function requires minimal external operation, drastically improving linearity of angle measurement and delivering absolute accuracy better than ±0.1°.
The KTH7112 features multiple flexible communication interfaces and output modes to fit diverse application requirements:
  • SPI Interface: 3-wire SPI communication (CPOL=1, CPHA=1) for 16-bit angle readout, internal register access and parameter configuration. An 8-bit CRC checksum is appended to all angle and register read data. This 3-wire SPI does not support parallel chip select (CS) multiplexing; to save MCU I/O pins, multiple SDA lines can be connected to the microcontroller for data acquisition.

  • ABZ Incremental Pulse Output: Programmable ABZ quadrature pulse output with a maximum resolution of 16384 counts per revolution. Absolute position startup is supported: a segment of AB pulses will be generated after power-up to indicate the absolute angular position.

  • SSI Synchronous Serial Interface: 2-wire SSI communication for absolute angle transmission with a maximum baud rate of 5 MHz.

  • PWM Pulse-Width Modulation Output: Programmable PWM output ranging from 120 Hz to 3.8 kHz; the PWM signal also reflects the chip’s calibration status.

  • UVW Commutation Signal Output: Programmable UVW commutation signals compatible with 1 to 32 pole pairs.

The above interfaces and output modes deliver flexible data exchange and simplify system integration for end users.

KTH7112 Hall Angle Encoder Internal Structure Description

The KTH7112 is a Hall-effect angle encoder integrating Hall sensing elements, analog-to-digital converters (ADCs) and various functional modules to accurately measure angular position and output corresponding digital signals.
Voltage signals generated by the Hall sensors are converted into two-channel quadrature digital signals via ADCs. The ATAN calculation module then processes these signals to generate a 16-bit digital angle value. This raw angular data undergoes zero-point calibration, rotation direction configuration and digital filtering sequentially.
For output interfaces, the filtered angle value can be directly transmitted over SPI and SSI communication buses for direct readout by an MCU or other peripheral circuits. In addition, angular position can be represented via pulse-width modulation (PWM), where the duty cycle varies proportionally to the measured angle. To boost update frequency, filtered angle data can be processed by an interpolator and fed into the ABZ encoding module to convert angular readings into the required incremental pulse signals.
All system operating parameters are stored in the on-chip programmable Multiple-Time Programmable (MTP) memory. Parameters can be reconfigured via SPI commands to accommodate different application requirements.
