KTH7823 Overview

KTH7823 is a high-precision absolute angle Hall sensor IC, featuring absolute angle output with up to 16-bit resolution. It enables non-contact magnetic angle measurement for both on-axis and off-axis applications. Regardless of rotational speed within the range of 0–120,000 rpm, the KTH7823 can output angle data rapidly and accurately, making it suitable for a wide range of applications requiring precise angle measurement and rotational speed control.
The KTH7823 offers multiple flexible angle output modes to meet diverse application requirements. It supports programmable ABZ quadrature pulse output with a maximum of 4096 steps, delivering high-resolution and accurate position information. Moreover, the chip supports 4-wire SPI angle output to facilitate communication and data exchange with other devices. It also provides 2-wire SSI angle output for simplified interface design.
To better accommodate practical application demands, the KTH7823 incorporates a magnetic field strength detection function. Users can programmatically set threshold values for excessive and insufficient magnetic field strength according to specific conditions, enabling real-time magnetic field monitoring and corresponding processing. This facilitates proper magnet selection and mounting distance optimization.
In addition, the KTH7823 integrates MTP (Multiple-Time Programmable) memory for storing critical configuration parameters. Parameters such as the reference zero-angle position, ABZ encoder configurations and magnetic field detection thresholds can be saved, allowing flexible configuration and adjustment across various application scenarios.

Overall Functional Block Diagram:

KTH7823 is a Hall angle encoder integrating Hall elements, analog-to-digital converters (ADC) and various modules to precisely measure angles and output corresponding digital signals.
Voltage signals generated by the Hall elements of this encoder are converted into two channels of quadrature digital signals via the ADC. The ATAN module then performs calculations to yield a 16-bit digital angle value.Subsequently, the digital angle undergoes zero-point configuration, rotation direction setup and filtering processing.
The output interfaces of the encoder can directly deliver filtered angle values through SPI and SSI communication for direct readout by an MCU or other circuits. In addition, angles can be represented via PWM modulation, where the duty cycle varies to reflect the magnitude of the measured angle.
To boost the refresh rate, the filtered angle can be processed by an interpolator and sent to the ABZ angle encoding module, which converts the angle into the required encoded signals.
Furthermore, all system operating parameters are stored in programmable Multiple-Time Programmable (MTP) memory. These parameters can be modified via SPI commands to satisfy the requirements of diverse applications.

Note: Weak pull-up resistors for the signals shown in the figure are integrated inside the chip. Users may optionally add external pull-up resistors. Unused pins can be left unconnected.
