Engineers developing BLDC motors, servo systems, elevators and platform screen door equipment have inevitably encountered various pain points with encoders. Optical encoders are vulnerable to dust and oil contamination and prone to pulse loss at high speeds; conventional Hall chips suffer from insufficient resolution and large measurement errors under off-axis mounting; imported 16-bit magnetic encoders feature long lead times and high costs; single-output interfaces limit compatibility with different models and complicate hardware debugging.


Today we introduce the brand-new KTH7823 Hall Magnetic Encoder IC. It features native 16-bit absolute angle output, ultra-fast 1μs refresh rate, and four programmable output interfaces. It supports contactless measurement across all scenarios including on-axis, off-axis and multi-pole magnet ring applications. Equipped with built-in MTP memory and magnetic field diagnostic alarm, the device supports 3.3V/5V dual-voltage compatibility and stable operation over industrial wide temperature range. It serves as an optimal domestic alternative solution for high-precision angle detection.

Fully loaded with robust performance, high precision and low latency, delivering industrial-grade stability.

1. 16-bit Ultra-High Resolution for More Accurate Angle Measurement

65,536 divisions per rotation with Integral Non-Linearity (INL) < ±0.35°, and output noise as low as 0.015°.Temperature drift reaches only 0.002°/°C. No obvious angle drift occurs under high and low temperature conditions, eliminating the need for additional temperature compensation circuits.

It supports ultra-high rotational speed up to 120,000 rpm, delivering stable angle output across the full 0–120,000 rpm range.


2. 1μs Ultra-Low Latency, Zero Lag for High-Speed Closed-Loop Control

The IC features hardware-based real-time sampling and refreshes angle data every 1 microsecond. It enables faster dynamic response for servo motors and high-speed rotating equipment, and eliminates jitter and positioning errors caused by control lag.


3. Wide Voltage & Wide Temperature Operation, Reliable Performance Under Harsh Conditions

Power supply compatibility: 3.3V (3.0~3.6V) / 5V (4.5~5.5V), compatible with various MCU main control circuits.Operating temperature: -40℃ ~ 105℃, supporting stable operation outdoors and in high-temperature equipment enclosures.±5kV ESD protection enhances anti-static interference capability, preventing damage during production soldering and field application.

Comprehensive four-channel output interfaces with programmable functions for flexible adaptation to various equipment.

The KTH7823 integrates four output types: SPI, SSI, ABZ incremental pulses and 14-bit PWM. A single IC fulfills the requirements of multiple devices and greatly reduces the variety of BOM components.
  1. SPI (Mode3, CPOL=1/CPHA=1) provides 4-wire high-speed communication, supporting register read/write and real-time acquisition of 16-bit absolute angle. A CRC-4 check option improves anti-interference performance for data transmission. WRDIS register configuration latching prevents accidental parameter modification.

  2. The SSI synchronous serial interface enables minimal 2-wire wiring and is dedicated to angle reading, simplifying hardware design for compact equipment. It outputs 16-bit angle data with most significant bit first.

  3. Programmable ABZ quadrature pulses reach up to 1024 pulses per revolution (4096 steps per revolution). Resolutions of 50/256/750/1000 lines are configurable. The width and phase of the Z-index zero signal can be adjusted via software. The output bandwidth is configurable in stages from 0.125 MHz to 16 MHz, suitable for both low-speed and high-speed motors.


4.The 14-bit PWM single-wire output operates at a fixed frequency of 910 Hz. The duty cycle linearly corresponds to angles ranging from 0° to 360°. With single-pin output, it enables extremely simplified wiring and is ideal for angle detection of compact actuators and valves.

Three installation schemes available; the off-axis calibration function addresses pain points in structural design.


Most commercial Hall encoders only allow on-axis installation, limiting mechanical design flexibility. KTH7823 inherently supports three magnet configurations. With X/Y-axis sensitivity calibration, it fits diverse mechanical structures:

• On-axis Radial Magnet: Standard for motor spindles, 1~5 mm air gap, up to 1 mm mounting tolerance

• Off-axis Tangential Magnet: For space-constrained side mounting. Integrated GAINtrim, Xtrim/Ytrim registers compensate nonlinear errors from asymmetric magnetic fields

• Multi-pole Magnet Ring: For multi-pole motors, 2~10 mm pole pitch, 0.5~3 mm air gap, layout optimization by magnetic simulation




Built-in Magnetic Field Diagnostic Alarms for Early Equipment Fault Warning
The QFN16 package features dedicated MGH (Magnetic Field High) and MGL (Magnetic Field Low) alarm pins with configurable magnetic thresholds. The pin level toggles upon magnet detachment, air gap shift or magnet demagnetization, enabling real-time fault detection by the main controller to prevent equipment runaway.

Built-in MTP (Multiple-Time Programmable) memory retains all configurations after power-off.


The IC integrates non-volatile MTP memory for storing parameters including zero offset, ABZ resolution, rotation direction, magnetic field alarm thresholds and off-axis calibration parameters.


It supports up to 1,000 programming cycles. No register reconfiguration is required after power cycling.


Parameters can be read and written via SPI with one-click operation, greatly improving calibration efficiency for mass production.


Customizable zero point is supported, enabling one-click calibration for any mechanical zero position.

Two package options available, compatible with both compact and large PCB layouts.


  1. QFN-16L (3×3 mm) Full-Function PackageAll signals including SPI, SSI, ABZ, PWM, MGH and MGL are fully brought out without any function reduction. It is suitable for high-end servos, elevators and automation equipment. The TEST pin must be grounded during operation.
  2. SOP-8 (4.9×6 mm) Compact PackageOnly basic interfaces including SPI, PWM and power supply are retained. Featuring small size and lower cost, it is ideal for compact BLDC motors, intelligent valves and consumer rotary devices. The TEST pin shall be left floating.
